For many, Nova Scotia probably isn't at the top of their travel bucket list with all the fishing villages and retirement community.
At least that was my mindset before I moved out here with my boyfriend and started to explore just what Atlantic Canada has to offer. With being right next to the Atlantic ocean there is plenty of beaches, hiking trails, and waterfront to play with when deciding what to do on a hot summer day.
My goal is to hike the majority of trails in and around Halifax but since I am fairly new at real hiking, I decided to start small with the trail running from Crystal Crescent Beach.
Just 32 minutes from Halifax, this beach and trail is popular and well maintained. With good parking and 2 washrooms the trail then leads down a sandy path to where 1 of 3 white sand beaches are located. On a sunny day you'll usually find the sand packed with families, friends, and couples enjoying their time or braving the oceans cold temperature. If wanting to hike the trails, you'll want to follow the boardwalk all the way until you get to a hill with a dirt path and follow that along the coast. With an easy walking trail that shifts between vegetation or stunning ocean views this hike is perfect for beginners. There is a point where the trail becomes not managed so use at your own risk but here you'll find huge rocks that can be climbed easily for even better views of the ocean and beaches below. The rest of the trail is a mixture of dirt, rocks, and broken bridges so if you're the type of hiker to forge your own way then that is definitely for you!
Overall, this was a pretty, easy, and fun hike to do if you're looking to experience the beautiful coastal scenery. Give the a go if you're in the area, I swear you won't be dissapointed.
Make sure you pack:
Water, food, sunscreen
Sweater, hiking or running shoes, backpack
